In 2006, the editors at The Gourmet Retailer magazine began writing a monthly column
showcasing products they tried and tested at work and at home with their family and
friends. Products were culled from vendor submissions, trade show discoveries, and simply
favorites that passed across their desks.
We took our complete list of 120 products from last year and sent it off to our Retailer
Advisory Board to ask them if any of the products listed struck a chord at retail in their
stores — whether through attracting consumers to the store or in effective sales. We
learned much from their reports, finding that some of our favorites never even reached
their stores while other items we adored were just not on their shopping list. Some were
part of their inventory; yet didn't produce substantial sales.
And then there were the stand-out items from our list; and while they may not all have
been one of our retailer panel's top-selling overall items, our board was able to narrow
down our list to their top 12 favorites for sales in 2006. And so, without further ado,
here are the 2007 Editor's Choice Awards.
